Our Story

Sylvia’s Catering is inspired by our grandmother, Sylvia, who founded Sylvia’s Super Sub Shop of Allen Park, Michigan in 1959. For 50 years, Sylvia built a legacy in the Metro Detroit Area. She was a pioneer female entrepreneur, owning multiple businesses in the community. Sylvia’s Super Sub Shop, withstanding the test of time, is attributed to Sylvia’s integrity, determination, and commitment to quality. Sylvia retired and closed the doors to the shop in March 2020. It is our honor to carry on her name through Sylvia’s Catering.

Elise and Alison have a combined 20+ years in the hospitality industry. Their career has taken them to Washington DC, Chicago, California, Colorado, Texas, and Savannah.

Elise is Sylvia’s granddaughter and fellow Michigander who graduated from Central Michigan University before starting her career in hospitality. She has been traveling the country building a career for the past 10 years and is proud to bring her experience back home! Elise has experience in all hotel operations positions, with primary focus in Food and Beverage. Most recently, Elise was Assistant General Manager for a full service property in Metro Detroit.

Chef Alison has 15 years of catering and restaurant experience providing food for high profile events up to 4000 people. These events include the 2016 presidential inauguration, Super Bowl 50, luxury weddings, and corporate events throughout the United States. Born and raised in California, Chef Alison’s approach to food has always been focused around fresh, local ingredients. She showcases traditional dishes with modern twists and focuses on rich flavors. Kathy Baker is Sylvia’s daughter, Elise’s mother and Sylvia’s Catering’s Sales Manager. Kathy has 30+ years of sales experience and is extremely knowledgeable about weddings and corporate events. Elise and Alison are so excited to have three generations of family onboard at Sylvia’s Catering.
